That MTRR issue is probably tied up with your graphics card - as I suspect Wampas suggestion will say.

So it's probably good to get it fixed, but it's not going to affect your network speed.

Well, i am geting this :

Code:
bash-2.05b$ cat /proc/mtrr
reg00: base=0x00000000 (   0MB), size= 512MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0xd0000000 (3328MB), size=  16MB: write-combining, count=1
reg02: base=0xe0000000 (3584MB), size= 256MB: write-combining, count=1

For Radeon 9700 128MB :(

And dmesg says :

Code:
# dmesg | grep fglrx
fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 430 MBytes.
[fglrx] module loaded - fglrx 3.14.6 [Oct 30 2004] on minor 0

[fglrx] total Inv = 0
[fglrx] total TIM = 0
[fglrx] total FB  = 0
[fglrx] total AGP = 65536
You have new mail in /root/

I use VESA for console, it allocates the 16MB that explains the /proc/mtrr status : in dmesg i have :

Code:
Linux agpgart interface v0.100 (c) Dave Jones
vesafb: ATI Technologies Inc., P11 , 01.00 (OEM: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600   )

Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

Tried to see what could be done using a /sbin/mtrr.sh file as follows as suggested in the link i posted above :

Code:
#echo "disable1" >| /proc/mtrr
#echo "base=0xd0000000 size=0x8000000 type=write-combining" >| /proc/mtrr

But unfortunately it does not work :(
Maybe i did something wrong in mtrr.sh .. ><

I am using gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.9-r4 and latest ati drivers, dri/opengl enabled but no MTRR and it seems to be slowing down 3D acceleretation.

Seen a few posts about it on the web, but no solution appart the link i posted above, that unfortunately i can't get to work, didnt find the right parameters for me. It seemed to occur mainly on 2.6 kernels.

Try "disable=1" rather than "disable1". And both lines are commented...

You mean it's not enabled in the kernel config?

They were not commented of course in my mtrr.sh file.

Code:

I had it compiled 1st in the kernel, and with mtrr "on" or "off" in xorg.conf i was geting same results.

Then i completely removed MTRR in the kernel, and it changed nothing. And still FPS on glxgears cap'd at 1550.

I re-compiled lately my kernel with MTRR support, and used ati-drivers 3.2.8 and it works i get 2250 fps or so.. Sometihng is wrong :) .. Sidenote, i then get ~150FPS on fgl_glxgears with 3.2.8 drivers when i was geting 300+ with 3.14.6. Maybe not the right forums to talk about these drivers though sowwy.

Btw in /proc/mtrr it seems one of the lines is aperture size, so since i have 256MB aperture in bios it looks like this :
Code:
reg00: base=0x00000000 (   0MB), size= 512MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0xd0000000 (3328MB), size= 128MB: write-combining, count=13
reg02: base=0xe0000000 (3584MB), size= 256MB: write-combining, count=1
