irssi completion char

is there any way to remove the tailing whitespace after the regular completion char?

/set completion_char P
"net[TAB]asdf" -> "netron asdf"

i don't want the whitespace

A two decade old thread revival, but his (or her) question is _exactly_ mine so I thought that it's better bumping than typing the exact same question, given that no one responded to original thread poster back in -04. It seems the irssi developers has still not come up with a solution for this. Also, the completion_char (/set) only affects nicknames, say if you (for example) use word shortcuts and want them to be auto-completed WITHOUT adding a trailing blank space slash white character to the end, you're out of luck, it seems. Or, have I missed out some feature? I was first thinking about posting this question in #irssi on Libera.Chat for quicker response, but perhaps there are active people here too.
