Hello,
I've been using Gentoo for about 2 months now (with gentoo-dev-sources) and I''m thinking about trying reiser4. I read some threads in the forum but I'm kind of lost with all these kernel flavours .. nitro, love, ck, mm. Which ones support reiser4 and which one do you recommend? I have a simple pentium4 machine without HT and a nvidia graphics card (if that makes a difference).
Also, is there a "homepage" for these kernels to explain the general ideas/purpose for each one?
Thanks a lot .. |

Well, maybe I can simplify a bit...
ck-sources are Con Kolivas's kernel patchset which contains only patches that improve performance. It's very good patchset for desktop usage. ck-sources are widely used as a base for another kernel patchsets, in example, for nitro-sources and cko-sources. Note, ck-sources doesn't have Reiser4 support!
nitro-sources includes some patches that ck-sources doesn't have (in example Reiser4). nitro-sources are pretty stable and fast, I would recommend them.
cko-sources (CK Overloaded) uses ck-sources as a base too, and contains various patches that original ck-sources doesn't have (just like nitro-sources, it contains Reiser4 patch)
mm-sources are the most experimental patchset. These patchsets are known to break things and I wouldn't recommend using mm-sources.
Here are some links for those patchsets:
ck-sources
cko-sources
nitro-sources

Thank you, both!
OK, if nobody comes up with a new recommendation, I'll go with nitro. It seems to me it's a more popular choice than cko .. |
