Alright, some information first:
Two computers: aeon & alucard
Both are running 2.4.26-gentoo-r11
Both have Samba 3.0.8 installed.
Alucard is a windows file server so all our ripped music is in one spot: \\alucard\music
Unfortunately, I can't seem to mount it anymore. I ran an emerge -u world last night, and awoke to this beautiful message from aeon:
Code:
adam@aeon adam $ sudo mount -t smbfs //alucard/music /mnt/alucard/
7384: protocol negotiation failed
SMB connection failed
adam@aeon adam $ sudo mount -t smbfs //alucard/music /mnt/alucard/
7386: protocol negotiation failed
SMB connection failed
adam@aeon adam $ smbclient -L alucard -U adam
protocol negotiation failed

Notice that the error number increments two each time it's run. Here's alucard's smb.conf files (I would've posted it here, but it's rather large).

I've heard talk about windows signing and such, but that shouldn't be the case with two linux boxes, yeah?

EDIT: It seems that none of the boxen on the network can access it, though I don't know why (conf worked before the update.)

Anybody? Ideas? I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting this problem.

Did you make sure to do an etc-update after the emerge? If not your config files may need some updating/tweaking.

Yep, did an etc-update, but none of the samba config files were on the list.

Weird... went away with a reboot, when restarting samba, net.eth0 and net.eth1, and various other services didn't work.
