Hi!
I've got a question. I suppose that the answer is directly in this thread, but I don't have time to read it all. Forgive me, this will be the last time I'm doing something like this. Is it posible to have E16 and E17 installed at the same time using emerge? Thanks for any answers. _________________ Janusz Bossy

Yes it is, the e17 binary is renamed by portage into enlightenment-0.17, so go ahead and install them both, i myself have them both installed. _________________ We are not alone. |

Ok. Binary has been changed, but what about all the config files? Are they in some other place, or what? I don't want my e16 to be changed. _________________ Janusz Bossy

If I recall correctly, they are in a different place. I haven't used E16 much lately so I don't remember if it was ~/.enlightenment or ~/.e16, but E17 has its config files in ~/.e/e _________________ Interested in E17? Get Enlightened by reading the user guide. |

Ok. Thank you very much . BTW, it's ~/.enlightenment. _________________ Janusz Bossy

I can confirm that the binaries and configs are in different locations. They exist as follows:
Code: |
**e version** **binary location** **config location**
e16.7 (and lower) /usr/bin/enlightenment ~/.enlightenment/
e16.8 (cvs) /usr/bin/e16 ~/.e16/
e17 (cvs) /usr/bin/enlightenment-0.17 ~/.e/ |
You cannot, however, have e16.8 and e16.7 installed at the same time, dispite the binaries/configs being in separate locations. Well, you could in theory, but the ebuild for 16.8 (enlightenment-0.16.9999) unmerges enlightenment-0.16.7. However, I'd suggest the cvs version of e16.8, as I think it's only been bugfixes and a few needed features (like composite support). e16.8 is tasty (and quite a bit more functional and stable than e17 right now) |

you know the e team response to that: "it's ready when it's ready" (although I've seen the new response on the #edevelop is "it's ready when it's ready plus an extra 2 weeks for everytime someone asks us when it'll be ready" ). Personally, i think it's ready now, but i'm sure it'll be another month at least before they release it. |

nice. yeah... it's buggy for me, too. I suppose they'll wanna fix that (as well as, it seems, transparency support) before they release it. Oh well, for now I'm using engage for tray support. |

Strange... I successfully compiled all E libs and E two days ago. Then I decided to update from cvs, so I unmerged everything, remove the distfiles and portage tmp files.
Now when I try to recompile it fails on building ecore

I strictly changed nothing to my system. Don't even rebooted.
From what I see it's looking for `usr/lib/libGLU.la' and not `/usr/lib/libGLU.la'
Any bug ( typo) in the cvs sources ?
Anyone noticed this ? _________________ dh3rm3's place |

Most likely a typo in the CVS.
This is what you have to expect when using CVS ebuilds. One day it builds, the next t fails.
Wait a day or 2 and try again.

Sorry too for possibly asking a duplicate question.
Anyone got evas to build with opengl support on amd64 yet?
I can only build it with a -opengl USE. Im gonna try a rebuild later, I have a few ideas.

I have opengl as a USE flag and have no problems with e17 on AMD64.

If you want to get by the link-problem using a quick and very dirty solution, do this:
1. When the emerge ecore fails, cd to the directory where it failes.
2. mkdir usr && ln -s /usr/lib usr/lib
3. cd /var/tmp/portage/ecore-9999/work/e17/libs/ecore
4. make
5. Repeat the steps above until the compilation is done.
6. ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/ecore/ecore-9999.ebuild install qmerge
7. If install fails with a missing usr/lib, repeat steps 1 and 2 and then repeat step 6 until ecore is installed and merged.
