LATEST NEWS:
2004-11-25 14:37:37.000000000 +0900 E17 in CVS
First I'd like to say thanks to Mandrake for fixing up the Enlightenment.org DNS. It's all working again, so no need to worry.
But in more interesting news. I have put E17's WM code into CVS - finally under e17/apps/e ... You will need all the up-to-date ecore, edje, evas etc. libraries as needed. whenever e17 updates i suggest updating ALL its required libraries too as they will change to help support the window manager as it grows. Yes, you can actually use this WM. I am using it myself right now. It's limited in its support for ICCCM, no NETWM support and it has no iconification, virtual desktops, shading, keybindings or button bindings, but it does WORK (just). it's also fast and beatiful.

Some of the components are allready in portage, although masked as ~arch
Try emerging entrance, engage, entice, examine, and evidence for example... |

e17 is now in cvs but sourceforge is broken so there is no way to get it yet
Code: |

CVS password:

newer ones, torn directly from CVS upon emerge, are masked as "-*" as version 9999. They're mmm-mmm-tasty. of course, they don't work until sf.net is back up running smoothly (I'm currently waiting to update my copy of entrance, and it's been a good while now with no success) |

the ~arch ones, aren't as "up to date" as the ones in CVS, thats why there is a cvs.
but if you go to breakmygentoo, or fluidportage, im sure you could get the
enlightenment-cvs ebuilds. they're usually really great about supporting
cvs stuff. and its great too.
just thought i'd help clairfy things a little.

Thank you sir! You just made my day I had never even heard of the cvs ebuilds. Been running engage w/ enlightenment dr 16.7 for some time already, as soon as anonymous cvs works I'll try to update everything. |

Here is a screeny for those interested. E17 has his own dropshadow system, nifty new launcher bar, and more. Just hit cvs and is looking Very good.[/url] |

arghs, i don't know how often i've read that the last few days...
cvs suxx & sourceforge even suxx more *lol*
so it seems we've got to continue usin' the ebuilds from 10/31, which are really great, engage and erss rock and so does entrance!
erm bgm? i couldn't find any ebuilds named enlightenment-cvs there and there are none in fluidportage, or did i miss something? |

the pseudo-package called enlightenment-cvs was not actually pulling code from cvs, but building e17 utilities based on legacy e17-cvs code, if i remember correctly...meaning that it doesn't really have anything to do with the new e17...so they probably removed it because people emerging it might be expecting the newest e17 window manager (or desktop environment), and end up with either independent apps (no window manager) or something uncompilable. It's probably just to save confusion/bug-reports. |

It looks like menu hell. At least the fuzziness of the shadows could be changed via a slider or the shadow position changed using some visual thingymajig. _________________ It's Floam, it's Floam. It's flying foam! |

This is probably pretty stupid but I get this when I trie to build the imlib2 from cvs...

are you using the cvs ebuilds from portage? They work perfectly for me for imlib2...
But I'm having problems with the e17 window manager itself... I know it's not meant for non-developers to try out but perhaps someone can help?
autoconfig.sh runs perfectly, so does configure... But if I try to make it, I get the following error:
vrln@gentoo > make
make all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/vrln/source/e17/apps/e'

make[2]: Entering directory `/home/vrln/source/e17/apps/e/src'

They work perfectly for me for imlib2...I wasn't using the ebuilds, the ebuilds seem to work properly, though I don't really understand why compiling straight from cvs doesn't work, the ebuild just pulls the stuff from cvs too after all... _________________ Fvwm|Fvwm forum |

does the ebuild send extra variables (like WANT_AUTOMAKE="1.7", or similar perhaps)? if so, that could be the answer; I remember needing to include a couple variable changes when making engage and some other e17 app. |
