ok i have to make a local file server using a g3 box.
i'll need to have one hard drive have a mirrored backup, so hd1 will mirror hd0 with no other hds.
i need to have directories that will be publicly accessible to the lan (and not wan).
i need to have directories password protected available to the lan (and not wan).
both macs and windows machines will be accessing the files in this server.
i will install gentoo hardened-dev-sources for ppc if its available

is it available?
i will use samba for windows to access directories.
how will macs retrieve data?
whats the best/easiest way to keep the mirror constantly updated and safe?

If the Macs run OSX then they can use Samba as well, else configure Gentoo for netatalk.
To keep a running mirror you just - mirror it, of course.
Set up a software RAID-1 set with the disks and install; mirroring is completely automatic.
If one drive fails you can shut down the machine, remove it, replace it and power up and hey - you're good. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /
