I just finished installing kde using emerge kdebase, etc. It took a total of thirty hours. Is that normal?
How long did it take you to compile it?
EDIT: Okay, scrap that, I thought it was done (caching service dependancies). It's STILL going. |

KDE is massive. Its packages take FOREVER to compile. Even on my p4 3.0 GHZ it takes a long time, and even then i only have kdebase and a few other things for k3b. Its entirely normal. _________________ Blog

It took me about 23 hours including xorg. I have a P4 1.4Ghz. You must have an older machine or maybe a ton of stuff in your USE variable or a combination thereof. It's also possible that if KDE was the first thing you emerged then there could be a lot of dependencies that hadn't been installed yet (like xorg). _________________ Chaos will always prevail over order because chaos is more organized |

Ha, well there's your problem right there. Just hope the don't have another update every few weeks. I usually like to wait about a week after the package becomes stable for major updates, just so that they don't release a bugfix or two and I have to start all over _________________ Chaos will always prevail over order because chaos is more organized |

Speaking of, KDE 3.3.2 is being tagged in about two to three weeks, release about a month away. |

okay, it took more or less 40 hours to compile 3.3 (uh oh). I'm not gonna update anytime soon, unless there is a really good reason (i.e. at gunpoint). |
