PostPosted: Fri Nov 26, 2004 8:53 pm    Post subject: Additional ReiserFS paritions don't mount a boot [Solved] Reply with quote

I just did a new 2004.3 install with the following drive config
/dev/hda1 -> /boot ext2
/dev/hda2 -> ntfs
/dev/hda3 -> /mnt/windows fat32
/dev/sda1 -> /usr ReiserFS
/dev/sda2 -> /var ReiserFS
/dev/sda3 -> /tmp ReiserFS
/dev/sda5 -> swap
/dev/sda6 -> / ReiserFS

my /boot mounts as well as /mnt/windows and / but all other ReiserFS formatted paritions (/usr /var /tmp) do not. I get a kernel does not support that format error message at runtime. I can mount them all manaully once rooted and booted perferctly fine. dmesg gives nothing informative... I'll post my /etc/fstab in a moment....

Code:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
# $Header: /home/cvsroot/gentoo-src/rc-scripts/etc/fstab,v 1.14 2003/10/13 20:03:38 azarah Exp $
#
# noatime turns off atimes for increased performance (atimes normally aren't
# needed; notail increases performance of ReiserFS (at the expense of storage
# efficiency).  It's safe to drop the noatime options if you want and to
# switch between notail and tail freely.

# <fs>             <mountpoint>    <type>     <opts>            <dump/pass>

# NOTE: If your BOOT partition is ReiserFS, add the notail option to opts.
/dev/hda1      /boot      ext2      noauto,noatime      1 1
/dev/sda6      /      ReiserFS   noatime         0 1
/dev/sda1      /usr      ReiserFS   noatime         0 1
/dev/sda2      /var      ReiserFS   noatime         0 1
/dev/sda3      /tmp      ReiserFS   noatime         0 1

/dev/cdroms/cdrom0   /mnt/dvd   iso9660      noauto,ro      0 0
/dev/fd0      /mnt/floppy   auto      noauto         0 0

# NOTE: The next line is critical for boot!
none         /proc      proc      defaults      0 0

# glibc 2.2 and above expects tmpfs to be mounted at /dev/shm for
# POSIX shared memory (shm_open, shm_unlink).
# (tmpfs is a dynamically expandable/shrinkable ramdisk, and will
#  use almost no memory if not populated with files)
# Adding the following line to /etc/fstab should take care of this:

none         /dev/shm   tmpfs      defaults      0 0

Replace all of your "ReiserFS" entries with "reiserfs", and it should work.

You need to change all of the lines with ReiserFS to reiserfs. That should work, since this file is case-sensitive.

Hope this helps

EDIT: cyrillic beat me to it :lol:

all *Nix operating systems are case sensitive unlike windows. I am sure you could not have got it to work capitalized.. sometimes the simplest of all things bug you out... been there.. :D
