Trouble updating...

I seem to be having trouble updating my world, whatever way I try to do it - first it didn't seem to make any difference if I commented out the Gnome2 development mask, but I was sort of finding it a bit unstable, so I decided to step back to an earlier Gnome2; now, the build blows up in the Control Center, complaining in main.c about FcPattern - sure enough, it sure can't find any place or way in which it is defined! In xftconfig.h (I think), it's typedef-ed to be a structure of type "_FcPattern", but THAT isn't defined anywhere that I can find. Is this a feature of the new XFree86 4.2.1 that also got updated, or what? I suppose that I can try to re-emerge xfree and xft, but Lordy, that'll take a while! Oh well, I guess I'd better get at least a little sleep - it's almost 5AM here, and I need to go to work in a few hours!
