First off, gotta say THANK YOU... And GENTOO rocks!!!! (IE I installed this in my /usr/local/portage tree and emerge is just doing it's thing. LOL). I'm emerging AS we speak!
Hopefully, I can FINALLY trash Galeon/Mozilla...
I have to say that I'm QUITE impressed with having an ebuild created and it just goes and does it's thing!!!!
AHHH FINALLY.. a NICE small memory foot print browser that LOOKS good and displays well too...
Just like to say THANK YOU guys for the work you've done here. _________________ Jeff Stuart

Hi all,
I had problems emerging the ebuild, cause emerge bitched about something like all packages masked bla bla, and something about syntax errors. After reading the cut'n'paste hint in this thread I tried something which worked wonder.
Well:
... mark the thing within your browser
... open gedit (everything should be ok, only vim & middle mouse key didnt work for me)
... save the thing
... and now
do recode ..lat1 phoenix-cvs-0.5-r1.ebuild
after that all was well. Hope this helps anyone (even if it may be offtopic) |

Just to let you guys know, phoenix compiles fine for me using gtk+ 2.0.9... gtk+ 2.1 is not required for those who don't want to mess with their gtk2...

I am using Konqueror.
I CAN'T RUN THIS EBUILD!
/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: line 145: --disable-composer: command not found
!!! ERROR: net-www/phoenix-bin-0.5-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 145, Exitcode 127
!!! (no error message)
The most annoying thing ever.
Can't anybody here copy the .ebuild to a file?!@?!@?!????!?! This web site's "Code" tag obviously sucks. Or Konqueror does.
I can't run Mozlla or Galeon, either. My gentoo is mysteriously broken, it says Gdk-pixbuf BadLength or some useless junk. Hmm. I guess that if I compiled Phoenix, it'd have the same error.
Nevermind, carry on.
Gonna boot into Windows. |

The file should be named phoenix-cvs-0.5-r1, not phoenix-bin-0.5-r1.
If it's just that one line that's bogus maybe you can find where it copy-paste:d wrong. |

Just to save people some time would you tell people in the main thread to put the ebuild in
/usr/portage/net-www/phoenix-cvs/phoenix-cvs-0.5-r1.ebuild
May seem like a no-brainer and it is easy to figure out if you put it in the wrong place. However it is the little stuff that makes life easier. _________________ What Larry was saying is that if you make it too easy for programmers, then poor programmers will be able to do things best left to good programmers, and will inevitably do them poorly. I KNOW that's the wrong filename. I tried the right one.
I copy and pasted ** CORRECTLY **.
It's this forum.
Other people had the same problem, but they were able to use other browsers. I can't.
I also tried copying it in IE, similar problem. |

I definetly have the same problem as annoyed.. I originally copied the text with Phoenix-bin, but it didn't work. Then I tried it with Konq and Lynx... still the same error! ;( I don't want to have to do it in IE :(
EDIT: It works now that I re-emerged phoenix-bin and copied it into xedit instead of nano... odd ;o
(and, yes, I used nano -w, thank you very much--I read the mans and docs. :/)

I had a couple problems copying the ebuild as well, but this should work:
1. Highlight the ebuild, starting from the bottom right, working your way to the top left
2. Run "nano -w /usr/portage/local/net-www/phoenix-cvs/phoenix-cvs-0.5-r1.ebuild"
[*Note* remember to substitue /usr/portage/local for wherever your portage overly is set]
3. Hit Shift INS to paste
4. Ctrl O to save
5. Ctrl X to quit
Works from Phoenix and Mozilla. I can't see why it wouldn't work for any other browser either. |

i was able to compile phoenix using the ebuild thanks all the hard work!
a couple of things that i ran into
1. the phoenix file (executable shell script posted in the beginning of this thread) gave an error :
phoenix: /usr/lib/phoenix/phoenix: No such file or directory
so i modified MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME and PHOENIX_PATH to /usr/lib/phoenix/bin and that fixed the problem. Is this normal?
2. none of the installed plugins work... is this normal for this ebuild?
thanks!

Hi,
I followed the steps to install the ebuild from this thread and after typing this:
[root@mymachine eric]# USE="gtk -gtk2" emerge phoenix-cvs
I get this error:

I did type "ebuild foo.ebuild digest" but it says doebuild: foo.ebuild not found
Any idea?

saturn:
type : ebuild "name of your ebuild" digest
this should create the digest file for you and continue the emerge process.

This:
Code: |
dodir /usr/lib/phoenix
cp -RL --no-preserve=links ${S}/dist/bin ${D}/usr/lib/phoenix
|
should have been:
Code: |
dodir /usr/lib/phoenix
cp -RL --no-preserve=links ${S}/dist/bin/* ${D}/usr/lib/phoenix
|
It should place the files in the the correct location again (this bug only happened if you already had a '/usr/lib/phoenix' dir).
I don't know about the plugins though, I rarely use them. |

Hi,
Ok, so here is the error I get after this: USE="gtk -gtk2" emerge phoenix-cvs
....
....
checking for FreeType - version >= 6.1.0... yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for xft... Package xft was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xft.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xft' found
configure: error: Library requirements (xft) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 75, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message
I presume I have to install xft? But it is masked and I read somewhere I should not install it because for some strange behaviors... ?
Can I install it without xft? How?
Thanks for your help

Ok, my Linux box is up and running again after moving. The new phoenix ebuild (with localxft as a USE option and all the fixes mentioned in this thread) just installed successfully on my system with NO external XFT libraries needed... seems to work great.
I'm going to test compiling it both ways and continue using it to see if I have any problems the rest of the day. If not, expect to see it on the forums LATEr this evening.
Nempo: I will probably create another post with a list of changes and the new ebuild... you can simply copy it to the main post (with relevant notes) and then when i see this is done I will remove the ebuild from my post, instead refering people to the head of the thread. We don't need anymore "disregard" posts... I'll help keep things orderly |

Ok, the xft library is no longer in "unstable" status... quite a few packages in the portage tree and starting to depend on it and not work without it.
Can anyone remind me again why I'm working on an ebuild that lets you run phoenix with a LOCALLY (for Phoenix only) installed version of Xft as opposed to just emerging Xft?
If there aren't any good answers I'm going to discontinue my work in that area and just publish the other minor updates. |

Ebuild worked, great job thnx a lot.
Only prob is imwheel doesnt work with Intellimouse Explorer, but AFAIK it's a phoenix bug? If anyone has imwheel working I'd appreciate some input on how you did that. _________________ Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most. |

Same settings in XF86Config for me, except that I use /dev/psaux, because I use the ps2 adapter. what about your imwheelrc? This is really beginning to annoy me becuase the only thing thats keeping me from going to phoenix is this mouse prob. In imwheelrc I already put ".*" to match everything but it still doesn't work. And it does work in Konqueror and Mozilla. _________________ Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most. |
