I've searched around for about a week an a half. And found others that had the same problem. But I've tried every solution and it's still broke. I think it's really something simple but I can't figure it out. Here's the debug of when spell check should be working.

| Probably some kind of configuration issue with aspell in your home directory. See what running aspell and ispell tells you, and perhaps blow away your dictionaries in $HOME. |

I had this problem, too. Remove all the .ispell and .aspell files.
BTW, this fixes any problems like this with GTKSpell libraries. |

Ok so I deleted the strip accents in /usr/lib/aspell-0.60/en_US.multi and aspell works in the command prompt. But Gaim still has that error messsage.

| I would upgrade your aspell-en dictionary to 6.0.0. Currently it is in ~x86 but I havent had any problems with it. |

I forgot to mention I'm one of the sorry souls that has an iBook. I guess 6.0.0 isn't ready for PPC yet.

It's nice to have. Not to mention my spelling really sucks ass. So I don't look like a complete douchbag when I talk to others on AIM.

Spell check in IM is surprising useful. Besides everyone should have a working version of aspell anyways.
To be honest I cannot think of a good reason why aspell-en should not work on ppc, its not like it actually compiles anything (right?). So I would suggest giving it a try by adding ~ppc to the ebuild, but you might want to check bugs.gentoo first just to see. If it does work file a bug, since this might just be an oversight on behalf of the maintainer. |

I've switched my box over to ~ppc. You kinda have to since in ppc world ebuilds take longer to go stable. Everything worked before but I'll search around some more and probably file a bug report.
