I just added a statistics mod to the forum. Shows some cool stats, but I'm not sure where to add the link in the forum template. Any input?

I'm intrigued to know the _rate_ at which people are signing up to the Gentoo Forums. I joined on 18th Oct 2002 and I seem to remember that I was number 4000 and something. The Memberlist looks like it will some go over 10,000 and the rate of joining seems to be accelerating.

Any chance of a breakdown of new members by month?

Any chance of a breakdown of members by age?
Data is available here:

Any chance of a Memberlist search?

Maybe I'm nutz, but isn't it the same link we have after "Usergroups" in the top of the window?

Yes, the link after "Usergroups" is "Statistics", but I don't think the stats show any of the info that I am suggesting.

There are a lot of statistics that would be interesting to see in my opinion.
  • Average posts per day (last seven days only)
  • Most posts in a 24 hour period
  • Lowest days to XXX status where XXX is a name-level status like Veteran, Guru, etc..
  • Average number of new users per day (last seven days)

Are these statistics at all important? No. Will they be implemented without being integrated into the phpBB system? No.

The problem with stats like that is that they encourage people to post vacuous posts to inflate their post count (sorta like all the posts along the lines of "Woohoo! 3 more posts and I'm a Guru".

But if you remember the FAQ, vacuous posts may be removed...

Yeah, there's a problem there, but there's always a give and take in this area. The benefit is that people will be more motivated to help people since they will be able to track how helpful they have attempted to be.
