I would like to be able to shut down / reboot my machine from within gnome 2.8. I'm using gdm.
I thought this would be possible by turning on "Prompt on Logout" (in Desktop Preferences -> Advanced -> Sessions). When I log out, I get a nice prompt asking me wheather I would like to log out, reboot or shut down, which is what I'm looking for.
But it doesn't work. No matter what I choose, I just end up at gdm's login screen (and I then have to shutdown / reboot from there instead).
It was stated here (a different problem), that "Gentoo doesn't give user privs on halt/reboot binaries.". Is this the problem here too? If so, how would I go about changing that?
Thanks,

The very same statements says something quite useful, too: use search.
Check here for an oooold explanation - there are many more.
