I'm considering getting an AMD64 system, and I was wondering if I can boot my current Gentoo system that has a kernel compiled for a normal Athlon 32-bit system without doing anything beyond just plugging the harddrives up and making sure all the drivers the kernel would need are in place. |

Looking at my applications, the only ones I would need to compile as 32-bit would be xine to deal with the closed source codecs and xmms to deal with some stupid 32-bit closed source plugins. Can just these applications be compiled as 32-bit without having to compile all the libraries they depend on as 32-bit as well, if you have multilib support in glibc? Thanks again guys! |
