Haveing a problem with the install. Everything goes well up until this point....
I'll start to configure the network thing, I'll go through the net-setup eth0 thing. The questions come up, I'll say I have a wired connection, then proced to enter my IP address in manually. There's already information in for the first 3 or so I think (IP, mask, etc....) until it gets to Gateway it's blank. It says to press enter if no gateway. I do that and continue to the next one which asks me for my nameserver(DNS server, I think). Again it says to click enter if you don't have one. I click enter and it say's something like, "check IFconfig...blah blah blah" I type the Ifconfig thing in and it just gives me a bunch of random characters I don't understand. I get stuck in that thing and I have to reboot. I then went back into Windows XP and found my DNS server IP thing in the Network Connections place. There were 2 of them and I entered both(different occasions of course) when it came to the nameservers/DNS thing and the same thing happened as when I had left it blank. What am I suppose to do? I have a cable connection with an ethernet card. It's connected to a router which is used by one other computer.
Anyhelp at all would be greatly appreciated!! |

If your Gentoo box is connected to a home router then it will most likely have DHCP running; you don't need to fill in any information in net-setup, just choose the "automatic" option and you should be set.
Failing that, you can also do it by hand:
If that still doesn't work then your NIC is not properly set up. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

Thanks for the reply.
It says tha the DHCP thing is already running when I tell it to do it automatically and type the dhcpcd-eth0 thing in. It also says that if it's not already running then I need to delete something. I think it was something like
/var/something/dhcpcd-etho.pid
I'll do exactly the following...
/delete /var/soomething/dhcpcd-etho.pid
It will say the file doesn't exist.
Any help would be appreciated! |

I thought something would pop up when I had the internet properly configured. Stupid me! I just pinged google and it went fine. Now on to the next installation step.
Thanks anyways. |

You should use that for a .sig - it seems deep yet is absolutely meaningless... _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /
