Hi, ive got the 2004.1 install cd and have installed gentoo but have had some problems because i forgot to install udev and lilo, i fixed lilo but now im getting problems with booting (i could boot before to console but now cant), so i was thinking sould i just forget tht old 2004.1 live cd get the new 2003.3 and install that instead, if so can i still use my package's cd which i got when i got 2004.1??

First of all, if you can't boot into a console you can always use a LiveCD (doesn't matter which) to boot up and then chroot into the installation.

Secondly, you most likely can't use that package CD. The issue is that in the time of two releases, the packages have been updated. Therefore, yours are out of date and even if you have the precompiled packages, it will use a newer, non-precompiled package. You can always step aside by doing emerge --usepkgonly packagename, however, this will give you a pretty outdated system.
