|
|
Hi,
I am trying to install gentoo 1.4_rc1 on my home machine. I have sucessfully installed gentoo on a machine at work. Here's the specs on my box:
Athlon 1.4GHz
1GB RAM
SB Live
Geforce2
CD-RW
Abit KT7A-RAID with 2 40GB IBM drives in a RAID 0 Array.
Everytime during the install either untaring the stage2 tarball OR during the emerge sync my machine kernel panics. I am able to see the drives, partition them, and make some sort of filesystem. I have tried XFS and ReiserFS on my main partition. I used ext2 on the boot partition. I am 99.9% sure that I don't have a hardware problem because I have been running Win98 and FreeBSD on this machine with no problems. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas?
Frustratededly yours,
Joel |

Most common cause of kernel panics are either using the wrong architecture files for your CPU, or improper choice in make menuconfig. Have you scrutinized those bits already? _________________ Linux user off and on since circa 1995 |

I downloaded the athlon-tbird stage2 tarball. I have an athlon 1.4Ghz T-bird. The kernel panics occur while booted off of the live-cd. I can't even get finished with the install to compile a custom kernel!! Thanks for the reply.
