I'm running a Stage 1 install with X11 and KDE. when I do an "emerge -uD world", all sorts of Gnome dependencies are creeping into the update.

I have Gnome excluded from my use flags. As a result, whenever I do an "emerge -uD world -p", all sorts of little Gnome packages are listed. Of course, when I do the "emerge -uD world", the emerge craps-out because Gnome is excluded from my use flags.

What do I need to do to keep Gnome packages out of the package list so that this problem won't recur in the future?

Thanks.

It's not the solution, but check --tree (-t) option of emerge:
Quote:
From man emerge
Shows the dependency tree for the given target by indenting dependencies. This is only really useful in combination with
--emptytree or --update and --deep.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of GF8: Why is <y> getting pulled in when I emerge <x>?
