ok, i've emerged bootsplash and created an initrd but it still doesn't work.

my lilo.conf

boot=/dev/hdc
prompt
timeout=100
default=gentoo
menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw
vga=0x0103

image=/boot/kernel-2.6.9-gentoo-r1
label=gentoo
read-only
root=/dev/ram0
append="init=linuxrc ramdisk=8192 real root=/dev/hdc8 video=aty128fb:1024x768-32 splash=verbose"
initrd=/boot/initrd-gentoo-highquality-1024x768

other=/dev/hdc1
label=windows

Sure that the fb driver is called "aty128fb" and not "ati128fb"?

my new lilo.conf

boot=/dev/hdc
prompt
timeout=100
default=gentoo
vga=0x0103

image=/boot/kernel-2.6.9-gentoo-r6
label=gentoo
read-only
root=/dev/hdc8
initrd=/boot/initrd-gentoo-highquality-1024x768
append="devfs=nomount acpi=ht splash=silent"
vga=0x0103

other=/dev/hdc1
label=windows

Yeah this was the first thing I noticed too. Where did you get this example code from? I don't have a video line, I use this:

vga=291

Works for me. Try it.

a few weeks ago i saw during a suse-installation a lilo-startup-menu with a nice picture and time-status-bar.

Does anybody know how they did that?

It looked very nice.
