Im on emerge 9 of 90 was it a bad plan to do this whilst using gnome?

I don't see why it wouldn't be... Even if your gnome complains because the versions are different, nothing really should happen. _________________ word. |

I did run into problems, like the PDF viewer not working and the panel fritzing. But logging out, then logging back in, fixed everything -- re-launched the correct daemon versions and reloaded the correct lib versions. _________________ Personal overlay | Simple backup scheme |

I do it, I mean I'm not suddenly gonna just "wait" for it to finish.
Just keep in mind at a certain stage (as already mentioned) things will break. So save your work often.
As deps get newer, the older apps may freak out and crash. IT may get to a point if you log out gnome may not even start. But in general things work.
In any case after the upgrade is completed, completely logout, perhaps restart GDM if you using it and log back in, things should be fine |
