|
|
greetings!
(possibly stupid) noob question here:
during installation of 2004.3, eth0 was detected and configured automatically (using DHCP) with no trouble. i did "emerge --fetchonly system" and then did a "ifconfig eth0 down" to take down the network while running "emerge system" overnight.
unfortunately, if i do "ifconfig eth0 up", my network connection does not come back up. can someone please help me with the proper command to get eth0 back up? i'm just between "emerge system" and compiling the kernel in the install handbook.
thanks!

no problem.. the latest dev-source kernel (2.6.9) has been giving me trouble with the eth0 not being brought up at boot. Dunno if it is my mistake or not.. re-run the command posted in the thread from a terminal as root and eth will come back up if having not been executed at boot. _________________ I've been away for a long time, bear with me. |

ok...... what's the best way to take down a nic? "ifconfig eth0 down" leaves a /var/run/dhspcd-eth0.pid file which must be deleted before running "dhcpcd eth0".
thanks again.

Try "/etc/init.d/net.eth0 stop or start or zap". You can do "rc-update -s " to see all avaliable init scripts. _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |
