I just had this thought so I decided to post it. I, along with many others it seems, am having a difficult time grasping mail. Out of all the technical things I have tried to learn mail servers seem to be the hardest to understand for some reason.
The Desktop Guide has a great intro to setting things up. The authors of the Gentoo docs are awesome. Would anyone "in the know" be willing to take some time and put together a mini howto on getting SMTP-AUTH working? You never know, it could be integrated into the Desktop Guide. That would be sweet... |

Setting up SMTP-AUTH is different for each MTA. If you use sendmail, setting it up is completely different than if you use exim, postfix or qmail.
That said, there are already lots and lots of SMTP-AUTH HOWTOs for various MTAs. You just need to search for them.
