X relocation error after emerge glibc

I just reemerged glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1 after I emerged the linux26-headers-2.6.8.1-r1

Now when I start X I get the following error:

$ startx
X: relocation error: X: symbol  __guard, version GLIBC 2.3.2 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference


I'm reemerging xorg-x11 again to see if that fixes the problem.

In the meantime can anybody explain why this is happening?

(BTW I'm typing this in links)
