I'm wondering if there is any web based server statistic programs out there. Some sort of all-around solution for monitoring what the server is doing. I can't say that I need anything specific - I just have a free weekend and googling around returns to many traffic statistic programs (for web servers), which I really don't need. I just need some suggestions of what's good out there for monitoring. |

Try nagios for uptime, availability, disk usage, and some system monitoring stuff. Smokeping is another that does trending of network traffic, good for measuring latency/packet loss. I guess big brother's another one, but that was some time ago. _________________ http://dkap.info |

Orca's awesome! We use it at work and it's a real life saver. It's probably the best monitoring tool I've seen. I was gonna recommend it, but I figure that installing it under Gentoo's probably not as straightforward as it would be under Solaris (and maybe redhat). And there's also the fact that Orca will cease to be a free product and will become a commercial product (if it hasn't already). _________________ http://dkap.info |

Ack! Got a reference for this? All I could find on the Orca-users mailing list was a change in the SE package licensing, which is for Solaris only and not from the Orca author.
Thanks for your information. |

Ack! is right. We were pretty well saddened at work when we found out. I can't find the reference to it here at home, I'll get it at work tomorrow. The new site was up and there was a "call for pricing" (which is always bad news). The other admin where I work actually called them. From what I recall, it was pretty expensive, like more so than I would want to spend for my personal use, but not astronomical for a company/org. I'll try to get more details tomorrow. _________________ http://dkap.info |

My bad...it wasn't Orca that was going commercial, it was the SE toolkit. http://www.setoolkit.com/ Not sure how useful Orca will be without this though. _________________ http://dkap.info |
