Enlightenment Edox Problem

After emerging edox-data, when running edox (from within Enlightenment) nothing at all happens except for the following error:
edox: Cannot open X display.

I can't find any references to this problem anywhere on the internet. I've rebooted and rebuilt the menus. It happens when run as root and as a normal user. I've also done an emerge --update --deep world.

A possibly related problem: When selecting "Help" or "About this theme" from the center mouse button menu nothing happens ("About Enlightenment" works though). Also when clicking on an Epplet's "?" button nothing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
