You could do it in procmail. "man procmailex" gives an example of setting this up. |

In that case Perl's Mail::IMAPClient and Net::IMAP::Simple are your friends.
Edit: Oops, I confused your problem with someone else's. If you don't have access to the server where your mail comes in, how do you expect auto-reply to work? You'd need a machine that's regularly checking for new mail on the remote server and send auto-reply messages whenever something has arrived. Normally, though, an auto-reply mechanism would be installed on the machine where your mail is coming in. |

Ah. Just don´t do it, don´t do it, don´t do it. This is absolutely unsuitable nowadays.
You are autoreplying to tons of spammers as well. You are autoreplying to tons of DSNs from misconfigured antivirus/antispam tools. Pure waste of time and bandwidth. Period. |

I agree. Auto-reply should only be used if you have a perfectly working spam filter installed. This is usually not the case if you don't have 100 % control over your mail server.
I never use auto-reply anyway, as I try to browse my mail regularly even when I'm away from the office. For those colleagues of mine who insist on an auto-reply feature, I make sure it's in a procmail recipe after spam filtering (which is surprisingly reliable at our site). |
