I did a networkless install and all was going good until i couldn't emerge dhcpcd so i said to myself well it should be on the packages cd. So I finish the installation and reboot and i setup the packages cd to work then I find out it doesnt have dhcpcd. Which leads to why i'm screwed. I cannot emerge it from the cds and i have no internet connection. How can i possibly get dhcpcd to my computer. My computer is the only linux comp on my network. I'd really llike to not have to redo the installation agian.

boot from the livecd, chroot to your environment, and then emerge dhcpcd.
or - simply, download "dhcpcd-1.3.22_p4-r5" and put it to /usr/portage/distfiles, then start the emerge again.
downloads:

i 'm trying to install ipw2100-0.56 . I need this to configure my wireless. I downloaded the ebuild from the gentoo-portage website. and put it in /usr/portage/distfiles/
i didi # emerge ebuild /usr/portage/distfiles ipw2100-0.56
(i'm not sure of the sytax, because i'm using a windows machine right now) and it told me to fix my PORTDIR and (something)PORTDIR as well. I did a echo $PORTDIR and it apparantly doesn't have anything.
What is the correct PORTDIR?
and if you could tell me the correct syntax for using ebuilds that would be great too. |

good, now simply run "emerge ipw2100"
ps: you might need "wireless-tools-27" as well, but emerge will tell you so. |

I did another thing instead. I copied the link of the ipw2100.tbz from the error message in firefox address, in windows. It downloaded ipw2100.tbz. I copied that into the /usr/portage/distfiles and did emerge from gentoo. it worked.
thats good.
thanks all. |
