I KNEW I should have made an image before last night. I am typing this through lynx because I cannot connect to X and have no idea where to go from here.
Here is the error I am getting:
X: relocation error: X: symbol __guard, version GLIBC_2.3.2 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
So I cant even log into X at all. This happened after I updated linux26-headers and recompiled Glibc-2.3.4-20040808-r1. I had it installed before so it was just a re-emerge and thats why I dont know why it wants Glibc 2.3.2
But I really need to get going for school and cant take this down time right now...I am hoping some kind soul will look at this and tell me its easy Lokheed. Its only one like to enter in bash...not my day.
I am running kernel 2.6.10-rc3. Glib 3.3.4 and Glibc 2.3.4-2004.008-rc1.
Thanks. |

You could always downgrade glib. I downgrade packages by editing /etc/portage/package.masks but there might be a better way. Or try re-emerging X before you go to sleep. |

Oops I left out that I ran ldconfig and see that libc.so.6 is pointing to libc-2.3.4.so but I have no idea if thats good or bad... |

I would like to say thanks for that link, but...well you know. Thats just great, no fix, nice bug. Its a good thing they took it off ~x86 and put it as safe...nice testing. Ugh, well I have been meaning to update to GCC 3.4, looks like I might as well just redo my system from stratch...now if you'll excuse me, I am going to scream profanities at the top of my lungs for the next 20 minutes.
Thanks for the "help", atleast I dont have to waste time on it... |

i believe the current glibc on the portage tree already solves this problem. don't take desperate measures. |
