... package. both can't be installed on the same system together. Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.
when i try to emerge system. i'm using a stage 1 install on ppc off universal live. what do i do? _________________ gentoo good to be true |

Try:
Code: | # emerge -p pam-login |
And it will tell you what is blocking the package from being installed.
If you can't get it working (sometimes I have hit cyclical dependencies and have had to do this), you can always do a stage 3 install and then an emerge -e world to reinstall your system. |

I have the same problem (almost).
I've isntalled gentoo already, and try to issue this:
emerge -pv --update --deep world
It says that pam-login is blocked.
After running emerge -p pam-login
I see this:
[ebuild R ] sys-apps/pam-login-3.14
