I've been thinking of sharing some of the Windows 2k3 servers shares over NFS to all the Linux clients.
The reason why I would like NFS is because the *nix servers also serv with NFS and I would like to keep it like that. Not that I think Samba is wrong, I just don't se the point of setting it up when NFS is already used.
What I would like to know if anyone has set it up before and how it is working?
Is it any good or am I better of finding something else, in that case what? _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On

I'd also like to hear some thoughts on this. I have the worst experience with even simple filesharing on two windows machines. I've tried hard to like SMB, and I think Samba itself is a great idea, but personally, I've had horrible luck with it.
I've had a fair amount of success with NFS when connecting two Linux machines, but then when I throw Windows into the mix, I run into trouble again. It's extremely hard to find anything like an NFS client for Windows machines to connect to Linux NFS exports.
The few pieces of shareware I did find were horribly buggy and ended up being harder to set up than it was to just burn a CD and move files physically.
Does anyone know how to read NFS exports on Windows machines? This would solve practically all my problems, if I just never had to rely on SMB for filesharing. _________________ s/(?<!gnu\/)linux(?! kernel)/GNU\/Linux/gi
Don't blame me. I didn't vote for him.

I have no experience on connectin windows clients to Linux NFS servers. But NFS is so usable in Linux networks. But we do have an nice w2k3 server wich has almost 600Gb storage so I would really like to make some of this space available for the Linux clients. _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. The Linux NFS server went to heaven a few days ago. The mainboard died. But I'll try to hook the Windows client to the Linux Server as soon as I get the new hardware.
The relation between w2k3 NFS and Linux clients seems to be running fine now.
Thanks for the link. Just what I was looking for. _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On

I was wrong. It doesn't work. Well it kind of works.
The computers do mount the NFS shares form the server. But they have no rights in them. You cannot even make an directory listing. Root has x rights so root can actually cd into the directory but normal users have none.
Back to the drawingboard I guess. _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On

After a kernel update to 2.6.9 everything is working fine.
I'm amased that an free MS product does exactly what it is meant to do. _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On
