I'm contemplating a new machine, my current is running with an Asus A7N-8X Deluxe motherboard and an AMD XP 2400+...My choices are either stick with the machine or upgrade to 64-bit...
So the decision comes down to Asus K8N-E DX ($159.97) with an A64 2800+ ($159.99) or Asus K8V-X ($109.97) with an A64 2800+ ($159.99)...The first board has more features (audio and extra sata)...Is the 50 dollar difference worth the extra features? Is it worth the possible $320 for the switch? or should I just stay with my current machine? Will I run into any possible problems with Gentoo when I switch? |

The first board is probably an nForce3 chipset, which would definitely get my votes.
The second one is a VIA, which - brrrr, avoid if at all possible.
As for the choice to go 64 bit - of course, everything Unix runs much more smoothly on 64 bits - or it should, anyway
Can I have one ? _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

I nearly have the same hardware as you have and I'm still satisfied with its performance. Gentoo is running smoothly and my new install (no older than 4 weeks) is still lighting fast So, I would wait a few months and see which new goodies are available then |

Keep in mind that nforce4 and via k8t890 will be out very soon... I think your hardware is decent enough to allow you the wait |
