Using the following how:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printing-howto.xml
# emerge cups
# modprobe lp (Only for 2.6 kernel users) : 2.6.7.rc11
# modprobe parport
# modprobe parport_pc
# tail /var/log/messages : not found on my system
Quote: | Note: Another way is to download a PPD file from LinuxPrinting.org and place it in /usr/share/cups/model. If you use this method, you can skip the rest of this section and continue with CUPS Configuration

I fell into this category and skipped to CUPS Configuration having downloaded : HP-DeskJet_712C-pnm2ppa.ppd and placed it in my
/usr/share/cups/model
From here I'm sort of lost. It seems I should be able to print from within a program like this browser "Firefox" It seems I should have to point CUPS or the printer setting somewhere to the PPD file that I stored at: /usr/share/cusps/model/HP-DeskJet_712C-pnm2ppa.ppd
But I don't see how this is done |
