|
|
I am attempting to install gentoo on an old computer I was just given, and I have been following the directions on http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-quickinstall.xml . I have just gotten stumped on the line that says,
(Install the kernel sources) # emerge <kernel-package-here> .
Where are the kernel packages located on my computer? Or do I need to download one? If so, where from?
Thanks,
Garth |

Hi,
It's under /usr/src/xxx
/usr/src/linux is a symlink that should always point to your current kernel source.

currently /usr/src is empty. There is one file named .keep, but it is empty.
I think the step that I am stuck on is the one that would install the kernel source to /usr/src? |

try emerge gentoo-dev-sources (for a 2.6 kernel) or gentoo-sources (for a 2.4 kernel). you'll get the newest version that way. _________________ Acer Aspire 5672 |
