Just as the topic says. There are several dozen network utilities in Portage, and I haven't been able to find anything usable with Google searches.
I'd like something with a nice Web interface, either something that refreshes an image or has an applet or something and can be started as a service. I'm running on amd64, so some stuff is masked, but I'll also be wanting to put this same kind of util on a 32 bit openbsd box if you have any suggestions in that direction.
Thanks.. |

Nagios and ntop are masked, unfortunately. There's another nice one called smokeping, but I don't see it in ports. I haven't tried it, but it's possible these will compile from source. _________________ http://dkap.info |

smokeping is not a monitoring program per se. It's more of a trending tool where it measures the average latency to differrent points on your network. I ran it for a few months and it was interesting, but didn't really add much to my knowledge of how my network was doing.

Well if you're running it on a relatively problem-free network, then yes, you're probably not going to find the output thrilling, but if you have a large network that was set up by other people, where yet others have misconfigured servers/services running, then it's a great tool for checking avg. packet loss and other things that plague a network. Nevertheless, the OP was vague about what he wanted monitored, so maybe something like smokeping's all he wanted for all we know. _________________ http://dkap.info |
