|
|
Hi guys,
I am putting together a MythTV frontend... this box will be used for watching HDTV and will need enough grunt for deinterlacing and postprocessing.... from what I have read, I am better off with a Pentium 4 system than an AMD Athlon (this is what I currently have and struggle at playing back HDTV material... Athlon2500+)....
Additionally, I need a video card that will support XvMC, which I presume means NVidia only... is there any benefit in moving up from the basic MX440 card to something like the FX5700 or later??
I also will only be outputting sound via and external Dolby/DTS decoder so will need SPDIF support that will send bitperfect 44.1kHz....
And finally.... Should I use SATA or PATA??? Is the linux support for SATA mature enough????
So which Pentium 4 core and motherboard combo will give me enough bandwidth for such a task as well as meeting my above criteria, whilst preferably having support within the kernel and being super stable?????
Looking forward to everyones opinions!

Thanks boxxed, but that device only deals with satellite DVB signals... I intend to to Free to Air Digital TV in Australia... so any other recommendations out there??

Thought I would update this thread... quite some time after I asked the original question... I now purchased a Athlon64 3700+ and a ASUS A8N-VM-CSM motherboard + 2x512M DDR 400 ram... this has enough grunt to display and deinterlace 2 1080i feeds (think picture in picture)... I recommend this solution highly... the built in Nvidia 6150 has the necessary XvMC support should you want it, and the video is always upgradeable....
