Hey guys,
I've just bought an orinoco gold card from toxic ranch. I've been using netgear wg511 for about a year now, works great. I've emerged the latest orinoco drivers, and obviously since I have the netgear working I have pcmcia-cs and all that. The problem is, when I insert the orinoco gold card, the laptop gives a loud beep (a higher pitch than the beep you get from say, a terminal error), and the the system locks up HARD. No ctrl x, no ctrl alt f1, nothing. I have to power-off completely. It also does this if I boot with the card it. pcmcia starts, card manager comes up, and thats it. I do notice some IRQ errors, but nothing I can nail down.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
**edit** I'm using 2.6.8 gentoo-dev-sources.

**Update**
Well, I'm starting to wonder if it's an issue with the laptop itself. The exact thing happens when I use knoppix-std. It detects the card, loads the drivers, beeps loudly, and freezes hard. For testing, I threw the std cd into my girlfriends laptop, and the card worked great. Perfectly.
I'm confused though because I dual-boot, and the orinoco card works great in XP. If its an OS issue, it seems that it wouldn't freeze with std especially if it runs on another machine. But again, it works in XP.
I'm on an hp pavilion ze4500.
Any ideas, guys?
Thanks again.
**EDIT**
