nvidia and ati work on same box? (related to vid capturing)

Ok, My main video card i have in this box is a nvidia fx5600, that works all great, i just put an ati rage 128 in here as well, it has a tv tuner and a/v in and out. I have not installed any ati drivers because i dont know how to continue. I want to use the ati card for capturing videos/tv only and my nvidia card just for my display and games.. How should i do this? I am using kernel 2.6.9 and xorg 6.8

should i just emerge ati-gatos and see if xawtv picks it up? or does anyone know this for a fact that it will/will not work?
