|
|
Hi,
I'm currently using kernel ck-sources-2.6.8.
I have many cd-writing-related problems with it. It seems that all cd-writing problems are not solved in 2.6.9.
I would like to try 2.6.7, but ck-sources-2.6.7 is not in portage anymore!
So my requests for help :
1) Do you happen to still have ebuilds for ck-sources-2.6.7? If so could you post it here so I can try it?
2)If not, what other kernel could I try? My prerequisites :
-Included in the portage tree
-V4L support
-Supermount support
-Joystick support
Thanks for your help! |

I'm not going to check each kernel for your prerequisites but development-sources still has a 2.6.7 kernel, so has gentoo-dev-sources.
It is possible the dev-sources one has supermount, it is patched kernel but you will have to read up on that one.
If that doesn't help, then maybe someone does have an ebuild for you

Actually I'm currently tryin to emerge gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7 r19, but I'm having a hard time doing it...
Examples :
Quote: | emerge -p gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies
!!! Problem in sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19 dependencies.
!!! "Specific key requires an operator (sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19) (try adding an '=')" exceptions
|
So I add a =, and get :
Quote: | emerge -p =gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "=gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19 (masked by: missing keyword)
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
section 2.2 "Software Availability" in the Gentoo Handbook.
|
I checked : there is no mention of gentoo-dev-sources in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask.
I even added gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r19 in /etc/portage/package.unmask, with no further success. I read man emerge, the online gentoo portage guide, and even the sticky posts in the forums, which seem to deal with problems similar to mine, but none of the fix proposed helps. So I'm kinda stuck. |

Have you tried it straight using
Code: | emerge /full/path/to/sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources*.ebuild |
This can override the package mask, I believe.
I could be wrong though. |

I've just checked the ebuild, and it has:
No mention of x86. If you copy this ebuild to an overlay, and edit that line to contain x86, it should work. No warranty though! |

Thanks, I've checked, and the "x86" mention disappeared after 2.6.7-r13.
The rest of the ebuild seems to remain the same, so I tried your fix and it's emerging rigth now, so it seems to work! |

Use 2.6.9-nitroN, and do
Code: | chmod -s /usr/bin/cdrdao
chmod -s /usr/bin/cdrecord |
That did it for me, at least. _________________ Work is punishment for failing to procrastinate effectively.

Hmm, I read this trick in some posts in the forums. I'm not sure it will do the trick : my problem is that I can burn CDs, with no problem, but 2 times out of 3 the CD is unusable (impossible to read data on it).
Even when burning as root I get problems.
And actually, switching to dev-sources 2.6.7 didn't solve the problem.
Burning CD in Knoppix seems to work all right though.
I'm really wondering what is up... It's really driving me mad!! |

... And actually it didn't work.
I tried the suid change but it doesn't work better.
I'm not the only one to have this problem(cf the big thread on cd burning with 2.6.9).
Do any other people have this exact problem?
If so please report it so we could try and sort that thing out! (even if I haven't got the slightest idea about how to do it )
It's driving me nuts. And it's beginning to cost a lot of screwed test cd's too.
Linux was supposed to be free though . |

I'm not having any burning troubles with 2.6.9-rc4 dev sources. Its been a very stable kernel. _________________ "The real romance is out ahead and yet to come.
