hi,

i synced upgraded my gentoo box after about a month's time and that included an upgrade to udev and hotplug. i had to deal with a flurry of config files that are with hotplug and udev. i looked at most of those. few were different but i thought the rules have been changed a bit and went with the new config files.

now none of my pci/agp stuff is auto detected. i have to load nvidia, soundcard modules and ethernet modules through the modules.autoload thing. it works that way but that is clumsy way of doing things. before i upgraded hotplug and udev everything just worked out of the box. i had no entries in the autoload files.

any insights? looks to me like a hotplug issue. i tried hotplug in both boot and default levels. both didn't work. i don't see any errors when the hotplug service is started. looks like a config issue ...?

thanks,
venkat.

Hi.

This sounds like the same problem I ran into earlier today. The new verison of hotplug splits things apart and requires the package "coldplug" to load the modules that shouldn't, properly speaking, be coming in and out. It's discussed in some detail here.

If you run
Code:

prompt>emerge -v coldplug
prompt>rc-update add coldplug boot

that should solve it, i.e. make it work again like it did before the unfortunate change.

Hope this helps.
