I have a very strange problem with my disk controller.
I borrowed a 160GB SATA disk and plugged it into my gentoo
box, loaded all needed modules and, everything seems to be ok,
I can read any data from this disk but there is a problem with
write, when I try to write something my console hangs up and
I cannot do anything! I'm using 2.6.7-rc1-love1, but the same
effect on 2.6.6-mm4. Anyone have any ideas?

here is my lsmod:
Code:

atari root # lsmod

I have the same problem. So far no joy with vanilla 2.6.7. I'm trying gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r8, with and without sil support compiled in (someone with similiar problems on a via device left sata support out and had it recognized as an ATA drive. I don't think this will work with sil, but as a last ditch effort I'll give it a try).

It seems worthwhile to follow up, as it has been a month and a half since my last post, and even longer for the other folks suffering the affliction that is the sil driver interacting with GNU/Linux.

The problem remains witn the 2004.2 boot CD ... not a clueful response in sight, which bodes ill for anyone using SATA with the onboard controller of a Tyan S2885 board. I am trying a build to IDE, and will attempt to access my SATA drives again with a 2.6.8 kernel, but I'm not overly hopeful at this point.

It seems I have this exact same problem. Only difference I could pick up was my log said:
ata1: DMA timeout, stat 0x61
and not:
ata1: DMA timeout, stat 0x1

Any fix/workaround for this yet? Will be a pity if I have to use PATA (or Fedora - which has no issues)
