I am trying to get framebuffer and gensplash going. I'm having some success. I am using lilo (I'll post my conf at the end) and I sort of have framebuffer mode at 1024x768. At first I didn't get any display until X started. Now I added fbcon to /etc/modules.autoload/kernel-2.6, and I get full framebuffer mode when the module is loaded, but not before. Also, there is no gensplash. I patched my kernel (2.6.8.1) with this patch. I followed the guide here. Has anyone else had this problem?
My lilo.conf
boot=/dev/hda
root=/dev/hda2
#install=/boot/mboot.b
#message=/boot/message.mandrake
#ignore-table
prompt
timeout=500
delay=10000
lba32
map=/boot/System.map
vga=791
default=Linux2.6.8.1
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=Linux2.6.8.1
read-only
root=/dev/hda3
append="video=vesa:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@60 splash=silent,theme:emergence"
initrd=/boot/fbsplash-emergence-1024x768
other=/dev/hda1

Seams that something is going wrong with your initrd image.
Recreate the image and try again... |

I just found out the problem. I was searching around for this, and I found that in my kernel config I didn't have the initial ram disk (inird) on. I enabled that option and I'm up and running. |
