|
|
I'm trying to install 2004.1, but it's hanging on checking the server timestamp, I'm using this guys backup of the old handbook; http://www.maxtux.co.uk/dist/gentoo/2004.1/universal/cd1/docs/handbook/html/hb_part1_chap3.html
I was wondering is it due to portage updates?
Basically all i've done so far is chroot'ed into my new gentoo install, and I'm trying to update portage?! But emerge sync won't work?!
P.S I'm using 2004.1 and not 2004.3-r1 because the newer kernels don't detect my hardware correctly. |

Okay this is weird, after a while, various attempts to connect, portage seems to be updating? Anyone care to guess why it's working now? |

Okay well, so far so good! I've successfully bootstrapped it, 1GHz Pentium3-m lol! Very slow!
Now I had to update my profile, but everything is fine, one thing though...
When emerge'in the system one of the dep's can't be found:
ncompress-4.2.4.tar.gz
What can I do?! |

fookin' hell, what is the point of GENTOO_MIRRORS, in the make.conf, when they stop you from getting key system files !!
P.S after removing this line it works now! |

!st change your profile. As for ncompress you might have to find it by hand useing google. and you download it to /usr/portage/distfiles/ _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |
