I just downloaded Tux Racer, but I can't get it to work.

I went to the Standard Tcl Library and looked through the documentation, but am not really sure what to do at this point to install it.

Hey there! Might want to try 'emerge tuxracer'. It's in portage. It will install the TCL libraries for you:

Or if you want to use the version you downloaded, just emerge the dependencies.

Cool; thanks. I would have never guessed that they would have included that in the distribution.

always do an emerge search or a esearch

Bosozoku is right. The simplest way is: | Code: | emerge -s <package you want>
like --> emerge -s openoffice |
If you like pretty graphics, head over to http://packages.gentoo.org/ to get an HTML version of the portage repository. Also, that esearch package is awesome for snappy searches. Just merge it, add 'eupdatedb' to your /etc/cron.daily and you can use 'esearch <packagename>' instead of 'emerge -s <packagename'. It gets your search results a lot quicker.
