Hello,

My system is a p3-450, 256 megs, 15gb hd on promise pci controller (/dev/hde), 4 gb hd on /dev/hda, plus other crap not important. :)

I want to install gentoo to /dev/hda, but I use /dev/hde to boot. I have had problems with boot managers before (both lilo and grub), so I have always used loadlin in the past (either from floppy or from a dos partition). So my question is, can I install gentoo so that it will use loadlin? ie it will either allow me to copy the kernel to a floppy, or to another partition?

Also, since its middle of dec. now, is it worth waiting til next release?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Yes you can boot of hde and use hda as your drive for gentoo if you want. This is the same setup I had on a BP6 MB (the ATA66 drive came up as hde, while the other IDE chain was hda.)
