a webmail is an interface for you to check your mail or, put in other words, it is the application itself. for your mail to be checked you need your school's mail server to have other types of interfaces, like pop3 and imap. _________________ noup. |

Your university will most likely allow at least pop3 access to the server. Ask some one in the IT department or have a look for it on your intranet or university website. |

Depending on what system your university uses, this might be able to help you.You might want to check out ePrompter, a handy tool that can check email on about a million different email systems, including some webmail. Maybe, you can bug the authors and attempt to get support for your email system. Of, if you're feeling creative, try your hand at a Thunderbird extension! _________________ Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... you can't fool me again |

Checked out the site of ePrompter. Seems cool. However, as it is not available in Portage... so, can't use in my Gentoo Desktop System (dun think it has a linux version However, may try on my Windows Laptop). Btw, I thought that yahoo doesn't allow POP access w/o charge. So, how can ePrompter retrieve yahoo mails.
Anyway, wd ask the IT department for pop settings. Thanks to noup for explaining the difference. Didn't know about that. _________________ ADDictED to PoweR!

the way it think it works, eprompter simulates you browsing the webmail so it retrieves your emails and etc. in other words, eprompter does what you would do when using the webmail service. but different webmail services vary on many aspects, so that's why it only works with a defined collection of webmail sites. when you are using it to see your yahoo's mail, it isn't using a pop3 connection to yahoo, it is instead using yahoo's webmail. at least this is how i think it works.
oh, and you're welcome. ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ noup. |
