I am trying to burn some mp3s to an audio CD using K3b. The process seems to go fine, but when I try to play the CD, I get the following error:

Code:

/dev/cdroms/cdrom0: Input/output error
mount: block device /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0: Input/output error
mount: /dev/cdroms/cdrom0: can't read superblock
Please check that the disk is entered correctly.

If I load the disc in windows, it reads it as an audio CD, and I can see the various Track*.cda files, but they are each exactly 44 bytes, and (of course) won't play.

Here's K3b's debug output for the burning session:

Here's an interesting development: While the CDs won't play in linux OR windows, they work fine in my portable CD player.

WTF?

How do you try to access the CDs?
Code:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0: Input/output error
mount: block device /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0: Input/output error
mount: /dev/cdroms/cdrom0: can't read superblock
Please check that the disk is entered correctly.

That's a correct message if you try to mount the discs for viewing them in a filebrowser, because audio-cds are not mountable. Have you tried playing them in a cd-player application? If your using kde, do they appear in konquerors audio-cd browser (audiocd:/)?

Winamp/KsCD seem to recognize the tracks and try to play them, but I get nothing but silence. Works fine in my Discman.

So your discs seem to be ok. Do other CDs work? I don't know how winamp handles audio-cds, but i know kscd is doing it the analog way.
Is it possible you're missing an audio-cable from your drive to your soundcard? If not check your mixer settings to see if your cd-channel is unmuted. You could also try a player that does digital extraction. I'm not quite sure, but i think xine does this.
Another possibility is to browse the CD with konqueror by Typing "audiocd:/" (without "") in the adressbar. Then you should be able to play the files in the (virtual) wav directory in any mediaplayer.

Yup. Looks like I was being a dumbass.

I swapped the CD drives between my Linux and Windows boxes last week and I forgot to hook up the audio cables.

Thanks for the help.
