Problem solved, when I changed the boot loader config (grub.conf) through gnome's utility, it left everything in there, appended the leftover info, and left the default boot pointing at position 0, instead of the new position 2. I commented out the additions, changed default back to 1, and it booted right up :D

Quote:

I just booted up my comp this morning, and it stopped at this kernel panic message. I see a couple errors at the end of the scroll,

Code:

FAT: bogus logical sector size 0
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k nls_iso8859-1, errno = 2

(some more stuff here, looks normal)

Freeing unused kernel memory: 92k freed
FATAL: kernel too old
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

And that's where it stops. My caps lock LED is flashing too, not sure why. The only thing I remember doing yesterday was using Gnome to update my grub to remove my old kernel 2.4 listing and set it to a delay of 0 sec.

I'm running the 2.6.9-nitro2 kernel, and haven't had any problems for the last few weeks of running it.

Have you made sure that the new kernel is specified in your grub.conf?

well i've been running the new kernel for the past few weeks, and I just removed the old kernel. Could something have happened during that?
