I'm looking for an alternative to NFS. NFS authentication seems to a bit too generic. I don't like the fact that to provide a share, you have to designate one user to access the share so no matter who actually accesses the share, it will always be one user that actually accesses the share. I would prefer to have each user, with their own UID, to access NFS shares.. Is this possible?

Thanks

[edit]
None of my machines authenticate on a domain. All of them 100% local authentications. I would like to change this to a linux PDC, if this is even possible, for both my linux and windows clients.
