Hello there,
I´m trying to get VNC working on my friend´s computer in order to remotely administer her Gentoo system over the internet.
Our routers (or DSL modems, whatever) are both of the type ZyXEL 650 . Mine is somewhat different. Anyway, my friend can take over my computer, but I can not take over hers. .
On my router I simply logon to my router, go to the NAT screen (SUA only) to open port 5900 and use address translation to map an incoming VNC signal to one of my machines on my internal network and that works great. I´ve tried to do the very same thing with her machine and I get: connection refused. There are no firewalls or iptables to get in the way on her side.
Her ISP isn´t doing anything, so they say, to prevent this from working. I did notice however that her router retains it´s ISP specific settings after having been reset. Mine doesn´t do that. I presume this behaviour might explain why I can´t take over her machine using VNC. I could however open up ports on her router, just as I did on mine, but nevertheless it still refused to accept connections.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Robert |
